HakkaYin x Monkey Cup Cafe @ Jalan Chow Thye, Penang

It is not really easy to find Hakka food in Penang but now that HakkaYin is available in Penang now you can easily find a decent homestyle Hakka food.
Previous known as Monkeycup Cafe and they were serving Thai cuisine, now the cafe has been rebranded to HakkaYin and focus on Hakka cuisine inherited from Hakka family of the owner.

Special thanks to Hakkayin for hosting

There are getting lesser and lesser home style cooking available. Some family do not even pass down their cuisine to the next generations or some refuse to learn from the elderly hence many good food and cuisine and slowly going extinct.
In HakkaYin, the owner has been educating people on Hakka food and also now make it available to Penangites with some of their home specialties.

We have been served with some of the signature dishes and also the best seller of Hakkayin, one of them was the popular 客家面 Hakka Mian with a generous portion selling at RM12.90.
It was filled with a tup of very nice lard fragrant and there are minced meat, mushroom, vegetable, and fried beancurd in the noodle. The homemade noodle was really delicious and chewy as it absorbed the sauce, making this bowl of noodle really tasty and enjoyable.

Another must try is the 客家算盘子 Hakka Abacus Beads which is very similar to taro balls but you could call it the salty version and much nicer than a dessert. Hakka Abascus Beads are usually chewy and with a very nice taste of yam.
This Hakka specialty is very addictive and most people will love it after tasting it. It is usually fried with minced meat, some even add anchovies or cuttlefish to make it taste even better. This bowl of delicious dish is available at RM19.90 at HakkaYin.

Another must try for Hakka cuisine is the 客家梅菜扣肉 Braised Pork Belly with Preserved Vegetables. This bowl is available at RM22.90 and portion is definitely good for sharing. You could even order a bowl of plain rice just to go with it. The pork belly was nicely braised and it was really flavourful, juicy and tender. It melts once it enter your mouth.

If you are looking for something to share with your friends and family, perhaps you can try their 客家大拼盘 Hakka House Platter at RM19.90(S) or RM26.90(B) consists of different Hakka delicacies.
If you order this, you get to try their homemade Hakka pork balls, Hakka fried pork chop, Hakka fried lor bak as well as Hakka style fried chicken wings.
This platter is served with their homemade chili but you are recommended to try the original taste of the treats before dipping into the sauce. The combination were all great and I love the Hakka fried pork which was fragrant and crispy.

You definitely wouldn't want to miss 客家酿豆腐 Hakka Yong Tau Fu if you are having Hakka cuisine. There are 9 types of Yong Tau Fu available in a bowl of the set at only RM16.90, or you are also able to select the a la carte menu and choose what you want only.

A meal like this is what you can enjoy with your family and friends. I find that this cafe is really good to spend some family bonding time and at the same time enjoy the good food with nice ambience at HakkaYin.

Apart from Hakka food and some of the traditional drinks, they are still serving some good coffee so you can ask your friends over for a cuppa or hang out with your friends here.
