What's the best thing to do during rainy or cold weather?
A pot of boiling hotpot is definitely the answer!
Ma La Hotpot 麻辣火锅 is a current trend in Malaysia. Good food from all over the world are now invading Malaysia and bringing us all the taste that we never get to try in the past decade. Especially recently years where we are more accessible to all the imported ingredients and also exposed to more information from all over the world hence we have got more and more China food coming into Malaysia.
Xiao Long Kan 小龙坎老火锅 is an original brand that came from Chengdu 成都 of China. They specialize in their Ma La 麻辣 broth that made with nearly 100 types of spices and then top it up with rendered beef fats that make it a healthier option for processed oils.
Xiao Long Kan brings you the authentic flavors of Cheng Du Ma La Hotpot and teaches you how to savor Ma La Hotpot with their imported ingredients.
Xiao Long Kan Hotpot 小龙坎老火锅 has taken over the shop lot that used to be Wendy's located at Sunrise Tower, Gurney Drive. As we all know that this is a very popular area in Penang and sometimes it is really difficult to find parking around this area.
Also because Xiao Long Kan Hotpot just opened recently so I would recommend you guys to make bookings to avoid any disappointment.

Xiao Long Kan Hotpot is an award-winning brand that has won numerous awards and mostly listed as one of the top Ma La Hotpot and also a leading brand in China. It is good that we are able to taste it here also in Malaysia without the need to travel to Chengdu China.
Xiao Long Kan Hotpot serves 3 main broths: Ma La(spicy and numbing) broth, tomato broth and mushroom broth(vegetarian). The main focus is definitely the Ma La broth that adds in 1kg of rendered beef fats to make the spicy and numbing pot flavourful and smells really fragrant.
For vegetarians, the only option is the mushroom broth which also cooked with spices and herbs but don't worry because it is really flavorful.
If you would like to try something before the hotpot meal, they do have some snacks on the menu and this one below is definitely a must try!
The Rice Cake with Brown Sugar 红糖糍粑(RM8) is so cripy on the outside but chewy on the inside. Something delicious and I've never had anything similar before. It tastes like our rice balls but the fried version.
The server will teach you how to prepare your own sauce so you can enjoy their hotpot the Chengdu style. Charges for the sauce is RM6/pax and tea is at RM3/pax
They will prepare garlic, chili, spring onion, vegetable oil and several sauces for you, you can also mix according to your own preference so you can enjoy it best.
Apart from tea, you can also try their imported apple cider(RM22) which was rather refreshing and good to have it after a good hotpot meal.
In Xiao Long Kan, you can find plenty of homemade ingredients for you to go with your hotpot. They practice making their own hotpot ingredients so that they are extraordinary as compared to other hotpot restaurants.

There are also some of their specialty such as the two ingredients below which I've never tasted anything similar locally. The Thinly Sliced Green Bamboo Shoot(RM15) was crunchy and refreshing after cooking it in the boiling hotpot for only 30seconds.
Chinese Yam(RM8) is very popular among Chinese in China but this ingredient is not very common in Malaysia. It is one of the most popular ingredients where people use it to stir fry or cook soup as it is quite nutritious.
Service here is excellent as the servers will always be walking around and attend to you whenever you need help. They can always recommend you on how you could enjoy Xiao Long Kan better.
Don't forget to stand in front of the machine that has been prepared to remove the bad odor on your clothes. But to be honest, it wasn't very helpful anyway hahahaha.
You can also bring back their ready pack so you can enjoy it anytime and anywhere you go.
There were several flavors available.
