Loke Thye Kee Restaurant @ Burma Road, Penang

I believe that most of the elder people or those who are 60's to 80's will know about this historical building named Loke Thye Kee.
It is a very good landmark in Penang Georgetown area, and also one of the oldest restaurant in Penang.
It was there since 1919 that served traditional Hainanese Chinese and Western Cuisine such as Spring Rolls, Chicken Chop and so on.

The building has been old and unstable and therefore, they did a restoration.
It is now completed and bring back its' past glory and beauty.

The restaurant can caters up to 80 persons, they also accept group bookings or events to be held in their restaurant.

Loke Thye Kee is now serving buffet too other than just ala carte dishes.
It feels great to be able to try out something new from them.

There are varieties of appetizers, from western to local delights, I personally love the spicy fish salad which was so appetizing, they kerabu and other salads were really good too. Not a bad one to kick start your dinner. Vegetables salad is served with 4 types of dressing. There were also prawns and mussels, but it will be great if they were to serve salmon or other sashimi as well.

Heading into the main course, they served Chicken Herbal Soup, White Rice, "Yong Chow" Fried Rice and Braised "Emperor" Noodles with Seafood. The chicken soup was good though it looks like just plain clear soup. I personally love the noodles and it was kinda chewy and it tasted really good. Should have this right away when they serve it.

Roast Chicken, Barbecue Chicken, Braised Lamb with Black Fungus and Fried Belacan Prawn
The Barbecue Chicken was tender and tasted as good as it looks, while the Roasted Chicken was kinda crispy on the skin.
The lamb shoulder were braised until rather soft but I personally find it a bit oily. The Fried Belacan Prawns are good, they were fried until crispy and you can just eat along with the skin. It was crispy and tasty.

Prawn Noodles were served for the buffet dinner too.
The prawn soup was thick and nice, the portion is small but you can order more if you want, it was good compare to some hawkers though.

Fresh fruits Rojak is also included in their buffet dinner. My favourite in rojak, Yau Char Guai!
Crispy and the rojak sauce is just nice!

Ice Kacang a.k.a ABC
One of my favourite dessert whenever it comes to buffet meal.

Braised Duck with Yam, Seafood Thermidor, Braised Mushroom with Vegetables and Vegetable Tempura
The braised duck with yam is the chef's speciality. We were told that the chef cook this dish himself to maintain the quality of the food. The Seafood Thermidor was really creamy and cheese, if you like cheese, you would love it. The braised mixed mushrooms was good, but the broccoli was a bit overcooked as they leave the fire on to keep the food warm. The tempura tasted not bad, the only thing is the flour was too thick. Though it is fried food, but they are not oily.

How can buffet end without desserts?
Loke Thye Kee serves traditional Nyonya Kuih, Western desserts like puddings and tarts. There are also fresh fruits and ice cream.
I love the kuih talam and the 9 layered kuih, my favourite since I was small until today.
I also like the corn cream cake as it was creamy, but slightly too sweet though.

There were also very nice decorations at the Salad Bar and Dessert Bar, made by the chef themselves.

Blueberry tarts, variesties of cakes, redbean soup and more.
The desserts are really a lot of choices and you may confuse about what you want to choose.
But I bet there will always be spaces for desserts aren't we?
