Yesterday's Classic Set Menu @ 1885, Eastern & Oriental Hotel Penang

Do you fancy a fine dining experience but looking at the prices of all the fine dining restaurant kept holding you back?
Well now you can enjoy your fine dining experience in the famous 5 star heritage hotel in Penang!

1885 is one of the best fine dining restaurant that is located inside Eastern & Oriental Hotel Penang offering one of the best fine dining experiences to all their diners.
Recently they have just launched this new 3-course set menu starting from January 2016 onwards. Yesterday's Classic Set Menu is available daily from 7:00pm to 10:30pm, a more affordable menu to serve all the customers.

We were served with some breads before we start with our meal. It goes with a trio (Butter, Sun-dried Tomato Butter & Vinegar Olive Oil)
My personal favourite would be the maize bread which is also a corn bread, it is very crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It is good to have it alone or to go with any of the butter, best is the sun-dried tomato butter.

Starter:
Smoked Margret de Canard

One of the starter would be the Smoked Duck Salad that served with baby gem and shaved red radish in aged balsamic dressing.
The slices of smoked duck are pretty tempting don't you think?

Instead of the salad, I've chosen this Bisque of lobster ragout, chive and cream.
From the menu itself you would know that this soup is a rather creamy one.

Indeed this soup is rather creamy and you can also taste the freshness from the ingredients they used. It brings out the taste of lobsters and also the chives that further enhanced the taste of the soup and made it better. It is also good to go with the breads, I wouldn't mind to go for a second bowl after I finished my first.

For the main course, you will get to choose whether you want fish or beef.
Picture shown below is Pan Fried Red Snapper Fillet that comes with spring vegetables and shellfish butter.

The fish fillet is rather big in size. I didn't expect that the portion would be big when it comes to fine dining dishes. But I believe this really worth for the money you paid to enjoy what they are offering and no doubt that the fish is rather fresh.
The pan fried fish is rather crispy, the moment you try to cut it and you hear the cracking sound is what excites me the most. And the red snapper was rather fresh, you can taste the sweetness from the fresh meat while enjoying the boneless fish fillet.

Another option would be the Grilled Grass Fed Fillet Mignon that comes with mousseline potato, baby vegetables, and served with your choice of shallot glaze or crushed pepper & thyme jus.
It looks really juicy and delicious too me but too bad I don't take beef so I went for the fish instead.

Kelly from www.kellychoo.my order this beef in medium rare.
According to her, it was nicely done and the beef was really juicy and just soft and nice. Well judging by the texture you are seeing down there you can tell that this beef is really tempting.

Our dessert was this lovely Berries Summer Pudding "Bavarois"
It was a lovely dessert indeed, but I personally not really into mousse cake, but it is served with wild berries compote that made it rather mouthwatering and it was nice to go with the coffee served to us to end our meal.

Freshly Brewed Coffee / Selection of Gourmet Tea
& Pralines
Before ending your meal, you will get to choose whether a cup of freshly brew coffee or the selection of gourmet tea to go with some sweet pralines. A lovely touch to end your fine dining experience with 1885.
