Urban Daybreak Café @ Lebuh Bishop, Penang
Been around the Penang Island for many years, Urban Daybreak stands strong as one of the most popular cafés in Penang until today. Being famous as a breakfast or brunch place, Urban Daybreak sure wins most's heart serving some of their best creations such as their big breakfast, french toast and many more. Let's see what we have today.
Established in 2016, Urban Daybreak café is a haven for coffee, breakfast and brunch enthusiasts, offering a taste of Melbourne right in the heart of Bangsar and George Town. Indulge in a delightful array of Australian-inspired brunch dishes, crafted with fresh, high-quality ingredients. From big breakfast and avocado toast to fluffy pancakes and speciality coffee. It was previously located in Lebuh Pantai and relocated to Lebuh Bishop just few years ago.
Classic as its best, the Signature French Toast(RM35) came beautifully plated with caramelised banana, crispy bacon, and a drizzle of maple peanut butter on the side. The toast was soft and fluffy with a light crisp on the edges, just like how a good French toast should be. The combination of sweet banana and savoury bacon worked surprisingly well together, making it a little special compared to the usual version. Simple, comforting, and definitely one of those dishes that make you feel good from the first bite.
If you’re looking for something hearty to start your day, Urban Daybreak’s Really Big Breakfast(RM48) is exactly what it promises to be. The plate comes loaded with all the classics — scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, sautéed mushrooms, roasted cherry tomatoes, baked beans, and sourdough toast on the side. Everything is nicely cooked and well-seasoned, with the eggs creamy and light, and the sausage adding that extra savoury touch. It’s the kind of breakfast that fills you up without feeling heavy, perfect for a slow weekend morning or a late brunch with friends.
Another dish that deserves a mention is the Guinness Pulled Pork(RM35). Served on a slice of toasted sourdough, the tender pulled pork is slow-cooked with Guinness, giving it a rich and slightly smoky flavour. The meat was soft, juicy, and carried that subtle bitterness from the stout that balanced nicely with the sweetness of the sauce. Topped with a poached egg and a touch of hollandaise, it’s hearty yet refined, the kind of dish that stands out from the usual brunch plates.
Something a little different, and definitely worth trying if you’re in the mood for bold flavours.

This one’s easily a crowd favourite — the Fried Chicken Waffle(RM36) at Urban Daybreak hits that sweet and savoury balance just right. The waffle was crisp on the outside and fluffy inside, paired with a perfectly fried piece of chicken that’s juicy and well-seasoned. Drizzled with a touch of maple syrup, every bite gives you that satisfying mix of crunch, sweetness, and savoury goodness. It’s indulgent, comforting, and one of those dishes that you’d come back for again and again.
For something a little different from the usual brunch plates, the Chicken & Pork Chorizo Fusilli (RM35) makes a great pick. The pasta was cooked just right, coated evenly with a rich and flavourful sauce that carried a nice hint of spice from the chorizo. Each bite had a good mix of smoky pork, tender chicken, and that satisfying savouriness that keeps you going for more. It’s hearty, comforting, and a nice alternative when you’re craving something warm and filling instead of the usual eggs and toast.
Not only Urban Daybreak is a nice brunch café, but it is also a pet-friendly café in town. You can always spot the resident cat named Jimmy(if i am not mistaken) hanging around the café always, you are welcomed to pet him and play with him as he is quite friendly to the customers.
Urban Daybreak has definitely earned its spot as one of the go-to brunch cafés in Penang. From their hearty big breakfast to the indulgent French toast and signature chicken waffle, everything here feels thoughtfully made and comforting in its own way. The atmosphere is lively yet cozy, perfect for a lazy weekend morning or a casual catch-up with friends. And of course, the friendly cats add that extra charm that makes this place even more memorable.
