Do you always wonder how those baristas make those beautiful and artistic latte art for your coffee?
I believe some or most of you are really interested whenever you see a barista serve you a cup of latte with some really nice latte art. And some of you are eager to learn, perhaps even if you just go and buy a coffee machine and seeing all the videos online, you just couldn't get it right.
Barista Haus is a newly joined tenant at Ropewalk Piazza, a new commercial shoplot located at Jalan Pintai Tali, directly opposite Prangin Mall Penang. Parking could be a problem depending on weekdays or weekends, but there are public carparks surrounding this whole area.
Barista Haus is one of the first few new tenants at Ropewalk Piazza, this place is totally new and I wouldn't even notice if my friend didn't tell me about this place. Barista Haus emphasizes on their coffee and also customers' experience of hands on latte art making.
The whole cafe was quite cozy and the whole place is in white! From the picture below you can tell that this place is very instagrammable place and you can take all sorts of insta-worthy pictures in this cafe.
The full beverage menu is displayed at the counter, price is rather reasonable compared to other cafes.
A cup of Hot Latte is only priced at RM9.50 and it is even cheaper if you choose the "Design Your Own Latte" option which is at RM8.00 only.
The barista will prepare the coffee espresso and steamed milk, also they will teach you how to do your own latte art.
At the end of the day:
you get to design your own latte art,
taste your own coffee
and you saved RM1.50 into your pocket!
Barista Haus do not serve food at the moment but they do have a few of their specialties in the cafe which are a few types of waffles.
The barista will brew the coffee and steam the milk for you, you don't have to do anything but to pour your steamed milk into your espresso and design your own latte art only.

They are currently using the coffee beans from Columbia, which was a bit acidic to me but you can also go for their flavoured latte instead. There are Hazelnut Latte, Butterscotch Latte and Salted Caramel Latte which are priced at RM9.00 nett for the "Design Your Own Latte" option.
It was my first time so the barista did a live demo to us. It sounded pretty and also looked pretty easy, but wait until you do it yourself! Trust m
So... Ready for the challenge?
The in house barista taught me how to make my own latte art, from the most basic of a Heart shape first.
But I eventually screwed up and then my latte art was a total failure.
That marked my first try, so disappointing.
I've also ordered one of their signature Waffles which was the Matcha Waffle with Ice Cream(RM15.90). The original flavour is also available at RM14.90 while you get to choose your ice cream flavour. I ordered the Vanilla Bean ice cream to serve with my Matcha Waffle which was pretty good to me. The waffle was rather crispy and goes well with the ice cream, only one piece could be too little for me.
The crispy Matcha Waffle was perfect to my liking. They made their own waffle instead of some cafe that purchase frozen waffle and just heat them up for their customers. That's a total turn off as those frozen kind of waffle tasted pretty bad in terms of taste and texture.
I NEVER GIVE UP!
After my first failure, I decided to go back again to Barista Haus 2 days later just to try harder on pouring!
This time with guidance, I managed to get at least a proper heart shape!
